Lucius Atilius (tribune 311 BC)

Lucius Atilius was the plebeian family of the Atilier entstamme Direction Roman v politician of the 4th century. Chr.

311 BC Atilius officiated as tribune of the people . Together with his colleague Gaius Marcius Rutilus Censorinus, he proposed that from now on 16 of the total of 24 tribunes of the four legions raised annually should be elected by the people. The motion was passed into law (Lex Atilia Marcia) . This meant a considerable increase in the say of the plebs in the appointment of these tribunes, for it had until then since the year 362 BC. Only six of them were allowed to vote, while the remaining 18 were chosen by consuls or dictators .
