Lucius Fabius Iustus
Lucius Fabius Iustus was a Roman politician and senator in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.
Fabius Iustus probably came from the province of Gallia Narbonensis and was a friend of the senator and writer Tacitus . He also had connections with Pliny the Younger . Marcus Aquilius Regulus asked Fabius Iustus, when he feared an indictment in the Senate after the death of Emperor Domitian , to act as a mediator between him and Pliny. In 96/97 Fabius Iustus was presumably a legionary legate.
102 Fabius Iustus became suffect consul in the succession of Lucius Licinius Sura . An inscription and two military diplomas prove that he was 106 and 107 governor ( Legatus Augusti pro praetore ) of the province of Moesia inferior ; he is likely to have held this office from 105 to around 108/109. From 108/109 to around 112 he was a legate of the Syria province . At that time Tacitus probably dedicated his Dialogus de oratoribus (“Conversation about the speakers”) to him, which deals with the importance and quality of poetry in comparison to classical and modern eloquence.
