Lucius Valerius Maximus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lucius Valerius Maximus ... Acilius Priscilianus was a 3rd century Roman politician and senator .

Valerius came from the Italian nobility. Furthermore, a relationship with the Acilii Glabriones is assumed. Valerius was probably the son of Valerius Messalla, a proconsul under Maximinus Thrax. Before his praetoric career, Valerius was Triumvir monetarum , Quaestor urbanus (City Treasurer), Quaestor in an unknown province and Praetor tutelaris .

In 233 Valerius became a full consul . As comes , Valerius was Pupienus' travel companion . Then in 255 he became Praefectus urbi and finally in 256 he was consul again.

Valerius is seen as a representative of the ancient Roman nobility in opposition to Maximinus Thrax , who was therefore elected to the Senate Commission of the Vigintiviri . He was also the curator of Laurentium Lavinatium , a priesthood.

  5. The equation of the consul of 233 with the consul II 256 and the praefectus urbi of 255 is controversial. Recently, the communis opinio has prevailed that the consul of 233 is identical to consul II 256 and the city prefect of 255, while the consul of 253 is probably his son.
