Lucius Volcacius Primus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lucius Volcacius Primus (full name form Lucius Volcacius Quinti filius Velina Primus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st century AD . Individual stations of his career are known through an inscription. His career is shown in the inscription in ascending order. Another, similar inscription is incomplete.

The military career of the Primus consisted of the usual Tres militiae for a member of the equestrian order , which he probably began in the last years of the reign of Claudius (41-54). As prefect, he took over the management of the Cohors I Noricorum , which was stationed in the province of Pannonia . Afterwards he was in the rank of prefect for the supervision of a section of the Danube (praefecto ripae Danuvii) and two communities of Boiern and Azali . He then became a tribune in the Legio V Macedonica , which was stationed in the province of Moesia . The conclusion was formed by the command as prefect of the Ala I Pannoniorum , which was stationed in the province of Africa .

After finishing his military career, he returned to his hometown. As can be seen from the first inscription, he first became Duovir and then Duovir quinquennalis (IIviro quinquennali) . A third inscription shows that afterwards he became Duovir one more time (IIviro II quinquennali) . He then took over the function of a priest ( Flemish ) for the deified emperors (flamini divorum Omnium) and became patron of his hometown (patrono Coloniae) .

Primus was inscribed in the Tribus Velina and came from Firmum Picenum , today's Fermo , where the inscriptions were also found.
