Lucky Wray
Vernon Aubrey "Lucky" Wray (born January 7, 1924 in Dunn , North Carolina , † 1979 in Arizona ) was an American country and rockabilly singer. He was the brother of guitarist Link Wray .
Life
Childhood and youth
Born and raised in North Carolina, the Wray family moved to Portsmouth , Virginia in 1943 . Wray worked there as a taxi driver. In the evening, he and his brothers Link and Doug earned something by performing in public and playing in bars and pubs.
Career
In 1955, Lucky, Link, and Doug moved to Washington, DC, along with Shorty Long and Dixie Neal, founded Palomino Ranch Hands . In 1956 they had the opportunity to record some of their own tracks in Ben Adelman's recording studio. A total of six tracks emerged from this session, including It's Music She Says , What'cha Say, Honey? and Teenage Cutie , a mix of country and rockabilly released on Starday Records . As Ray Vernon , Lucky Wray continued to record as a solo artist on various labels over the next few years. He also hosted the Milt Grant Show and opened a recording studio. Wray then moved to Accokeek , Maryland , where he started another studio he called Wray's Shack Three Tracks . He also recorded pieces himself in his studios. After moving to Arizona , Wray spent his time managing what are now three studios and his career.
Lucky Wray died in 1979 at the age of 55.
