The Lukumi is a dialect of the Yoruba , which is spoken by former slaves from the Yoruba people and by followers of the Santería religion in Cuba .
It is now regarded as an independent yoruboid language and is also known as Yoruba and Santeria in these countries. Lukumi is a liturgical language used in prayers and songs. However, the Lukumi is increasingly being displaced by the Spanish language and is therefore becoming more and more forgotten in the course of globalization.
