Ludger van Bergen

Ludger FM van Bergen SJ (born April 28, 1938 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch priest .

Life

At the age of 20 van Bergen joined the Society of Jesus in Grave , the Netherlands, of which he is still a member today. He obtained his licentiate in philosophy in 1963 at the Berchmanianum in his hometown of Nijmegen, with the thesis "Sociality of Knowledge in Thomas Aquinas". Four years later, in 1967, he was ordained a priest in St. Servaas, Maastricht .

In 1968 he has a degree in Catholic theology in Canisianum, Maastricht with the work "approach of religious life in the NT" One year later, in 1969, he obtained his diploma in Missiology at the Catholic University of Nijmegen with the work "Van aangezicht dead aangezicht, meaning of religious life for missionary work ”. He then worked as a member of the Lumen Institute in Ernakulam, Kerala, India in preparation for his doctorate .

In 1975 he received his doctorate in missiology at the Catholic University of Nijmegen with the thesis "Light op het leven van religieuzen - sannyasa-dipika". This tries to make a contribution to the discussion about the question of how one can attain a religious life that is rooted in both the Indian and the Christian tradition. From 1975 to 1978 he worked as a lecturer at the Institute for Philosophy and Theology in Yogyakarta , Indonesia, in the field of theology of non-Christian religions, missiology. He also held the post of sub-rain at the Seminari Tinggi, Kentungan, Yogyakarta.

From 1979 to 1988 he worked in Bonn as an employee of the Catholic Missions, but was also a lecturer at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen, Frankfurt am Main, from 1979 to 1984. He also worked as a chaplain in the Maria im Waldein children's home and as a hospital chaplain in the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Bonn.

From 1989 until his retirement in 2013, van Bergen was spiritual at the Episcopal Seminary in Trier , as well as lecturer in spiritual theology (1998) and religious studies (2002). He worked in the pastoral course and in the preparatory course for spiritual theology.
