Ludwigstrasse 64-66

The twin house Ludwigstrasse 64–66 in the west end of Offenbach am Main is a listed residential building.

The building

The three- to four-story semi-detached house was built in 1902 by the architect Max Schröder for its own portfolio. He also lived in the representative building opposite the Grand Ducal District House Ludwigstrasse 69 (today the Offenbach Chamber of Commerce and Industry has its headquarters here in a newer building).

The sandstone facade is designed in a neo-Gothic style. However, parts of the house are already kept in Art Nouveau style. This applies to the wrought iron fittings of the front door and the leaf ornament above the middle group of windows on the ground floor. Inside, especially in the stairwell, the impression of Art Nouveau becomes stronger.

After the war damage, the two upper floors were rebuilt in a simplified manner. Both houses have a panel-clad ground floor and a central, three-story bay window, at house number 64 with a balcony above. The window frames and parapet areas are decorated with ornamental forms in tracery, balusters, etc. At house number 64 there are three dormers in the roof area, the middle one with a small spire. House number 66 has an elaborate polygonal tower top with a helmet. The original enclosure has been partially preserved.
