Westend is a district of the southern Hessian city Offenbach am Main . Along with eleven other districts, it was formed in July 2019 from the area that had previously been free of districts.

Around 5,400 people lived in this district in June 2020.

history

The approximately 27 hectare area was built between 1870 and 1914 on the city limits of Frankfurt as a western urban extension and residential area for the upper class. The area is bordered to the north by Löwenstrasse, to the east by Ludwigstrasse, to the south and west by Bismarckstrasse and Dreieichring, and further along to Frankfurter Strasse by Dreieichring, Frankfurter Strasse and August-Bebel-Ring.

Many of the villas were built by the Hasenbach brothers' construction company and often sold before completion. Although the floor plans and plots are similar, the buildings have completely different facades. The Behrens family of manufacturers had a neo-baroque style villa built at Körnerstraße 52.

Only a few buildings were destroyed in the Second World War, and a number of residential complexes were built in the gardens from the 1960s onwards. In 1987 the city museum in Dreieich-Park showed the exhibition home-style living in Offenbach around 1900 with furnishings from houses in the Westend.

There were also some larger commercial operations in the Westend, including the Dick & Kirschten car company and Kaiser-Friedrich-Quelle .
