Waldheim is a district of the southern Hessian city Offenbach am Main . Around 800 people lived in this district in 2017.

Geographical location

North of Waldheim is Rumpenheim , east of Muhlheim am Main , the west is Burgel and in the south the local situation on the oaks .

The Hessian apple wine and orchard route leads through Rumpenheim and Waldheim, the Kuhmühlgraben also flows through Waldheim, it flows into the Main a few kilometers further at Allessa Chemie . This trench, which runs directly on the Waldheim property borders, was successfully renatured from October 2012 as part of flood protection in the area of ​​the Lachwiesen. Today it not only serves as a stopover for numerous migratory birds such as the stork, but also many stationary animal species find a new habitat here.

history

Around 1900 the Frankfurt entrepreneur Jakob Latscha founded the property company Marioth GmbH. He was planning to promote home ownership for the little man. Jakob Latscha bought the Lohwald, which at that time belonged to Rumpenheim, and sold the property to the city of Offenbach, which housed tramps, the homeless, refugees, the poor and the unemployed there in the Lohwald district .

In 1911, however, the country house colony of Waldheim was established in Rumpenheim . The first residents move into their homes as early as 1912. With the incorporation of Rumpenheim on April 1, 1942, Waldheim comes to Offenbach.

Friedrich Ebert School

Today, Offenbach's Friedrich-Ebert-Schule is the only real all-day primary school in Waldheim (as of August 2010). The offer includes afternoon care and homework assistance for the various age groups. In addition, various working groups are offered, for example theater, art and works.

The school was built from 1952 according to plans by city planner Adolf Bayer in a typical post-war style. Together with the neighboring Holy Cross Church, built in the same style in 1955, the complex is a listed building .

Opposite the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule is the Catholic kindergarten. The Protestant kindergarten is located at the northeastern end of Waldheim on the grounds of the Redeemer Congregation.

Holy Cross Church

The Catholic parish Heilig Kreuz in Offenbach-Waldheim was established on May 1, 1955 and comprises several small parts of the community. These include the Lammerspieler Weg, the Eschig, the Mühlheimer Straße as well as the Waldheim settlements and the locality An den Eichen . The Rote Warte settlement in Mühlheim am Main was also affiliated to the Heilig Kreuz community until the parish (after Sankt Markus , Mühlheim) in 2013 . Today the parish Heilig Kreuz belongs together with the parishes Heilig Geist (Rumpenheim) and Sankt Pankratius (Bürgel) to the parish group Offenbach Ost under the direction of a common pastor.

The Evangelical Redeemer Congregation includes the Offenbach districts of Waldheim with Mühlheimer Strasse and Eschig, the An den Eichen development area , and the Rote Warte settlement in the city of Mühlheim.
