Heinrich Wendt

Heinrich Wendt (born September 11, 1605 in Einbeck ; † 1683 ) was a chronicler from Lower Saxony. On March 2, 1633 he married Catharina Wreden, with whom he had 10 children.

Life

Born the son of the brewer Diethmar Wendt and his wife Anna, he first attended school in his hometown. After attending the high school Andreanum in Hildesheim and the Ratsgymnasium Goslar he enrolled at the University of Helmstedt . However, he did not stay there long because the plague broke out. After brief stays in various cities, he studied in Rostock in 1626 . In 1628 he went again to the University of Helmstedt. Here he was elected secretary of the law faculty in 1630. In 1635 he was appointed secretary by the city council of Osterode and took care of the city archives. From 1647 to 1683 he was mayor of Osterode.

He gained importance as a historian of the 17th century of the principality of Grubenhagen and the chronicle of the city of Osterode.
