Athletic career

Until 1965, Harald Krause played for the company sports community (BSG) progress Greiz in the third-rate district league Gera . At the beginning of the 1965/66 season, he moved to the GDR league club Wismut Gera. There he was immediately established as a regular player with 21 appearances in 30 league games and seven goals scored and helped the BSG to rise to the GDR league. There the Geraer could only hold for a season in which Krause played 17 of 26 point games. He was there in the first four matches, but then suffered a lengthy injury and was only able to return to the league at the beginning of the second half of the season. He played the remaining 13 point games in which he was used as a striker on the right side, but scored a total of only three goals.

Until 1975, Harald Krause continued to play for BSG Wismut Gera in the GDR league. In the seasons 1967/68, 1969/70 and 1972/73 he was always a regular player, because he was used 74 times in 82 played point games. In his last two seasons 1973/74 and 1974/75, in which Wismut Gera was each season winner, but twice missed promotion to the league, Krause was only a substitute with ten and one point game use. He was only used in the 1974 promotion round when he completed five of eight encounters. Instead, he played mainly in the third-class 2nd team, which he helped in 1973 to the district championship. In the summer of 1975, Krause ended his career as a competitive footballer at the age of 34 after 178 matches and 21 goals.
