Lugano Arte e Cultura ( LAC ) is an art and culture center based in Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino . The LAC houses the Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI) and is the main venue for LuganoInScena and LuganoMusica.

history

In 2001, 130 architectural offices took part in the competition. The Lugano Arte e Cultura was finally built by the Ticino architect Ivano Gianola. The LAC opened its doors on September 12, 2015. Michel Gagnon has been the director of the arts and culture center since it opened.

architecture

The building has a volume of 180,000 cubic meters and is located on the shores of Lake Lugano . Visitors enter the building through a 650 square meter hall, which is the heart of the art and culture center. The museum extends over three floors with an exhibition area of ​​2500 square meters. The theater and concert hall can accommodate up to 1000 visitors.

Exhibitions

The permanent exhibition of MASI consists of works of art from the city of Lugano and the canton of Ticino . In addition to the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions are shown.
