Luing (domestic cattle breed)

The extensive cattle breed Luing ( breed key LG 50) was bred on the Scottish island of Luing from 1947 by the brothers Shane, Denis and Ralph Cadzow. This breed of cattle has its origin in the Beef Shorthorn and the Highland Cattle .

The red-brown Luing, which was recognized as an independent breed in 1965, reach a height at the withers of 125 cm, whereby the bulls can easily reach a weight of 950 kg.

In the UK, the breed is listed as Endangered on the UK Rare Breeds Survival Trust's watch list .
