Life

societies

"Titi" García Cortina began his active career in the then capital league of Mexico City at the age of 19 with Real Club España , with whom he won two championship titles in the seasons 1933/34 and 1935/36 .

Before the cup round of the 1937/38 season in 1938, which was only played after the actual season, he moved to reigning champions Necaxa and before the new 1938/39 season to Club America . When the Argentine CA Vélez Sársfield made a trip to Mexico in early 1940 to play some friendly matches, the gauchos noticed "Titi" and brought him to Argentina. In February 1940 García Cortina moved to Argentina and was not only the first ever Mexican player, but also quickly became a crowd favorite. In June of the same year he was followed by his longtime friend Luis “Pirata” de la Fuente . The tide began to turn when the coach changed and the new coach regularly banished the two Mexicans to the bench. Therefore, the two friends left Vélez Sársfield in March 1941 and returned to Mexico, where "Titi" García Cortina hired again on March 30, 1941 with his former club America. He played there for two years, but withdrew from active football with the introduction of the professional league in 1943 and from then on devoted himself to his new hobby, aviation. García Cortina practiced the profession of pilot for about thirty years.

National team

Between 1935 and 1938 "Titi" García Cortina played a total of eight international matches, in which he scored five goals. He scored his first international goal immediately on his international debut for the Mexican national team at the Central American Championships on March 27, 1935 against the hosts El Salvador. His goal in the 51st minute for the 2-1 lead ultimately paved the way for the later 8-1 victory for the Mexicans. He scored his second goal the following day against Guatemala (5-1). He scored another goal in the 7-3 test match win against the USA on September 19, 1937, before he managed a “double” at the next Central American Championships in 1938 to win 6-0 against El Salvador on February 18, 1938.
