St. Joseph's Church Lukšiai

Lukšiai is a "town" ( miestelis ) in the Rajongemeinde Šakiai in southwestern Lithuania . The place is located on the Siesartis , a tributary of the Šešupė . The town is located on the highway 140 ( Kaunas - Zapyškis - Šakiai ), 8 km to the east from the municipality capital Šakiai. Lukšiai is the center of the Lukšiai district, which consists of two sub-districts ( Ežero and Siesarties ). The place includes the Catholic St. Joseph's Church, a post office (LT-71005). In 1939 a dairy was founded. It was later a plant of the Soviet-Lithuanian dairy combine Kaunas , today the milk processing company UAB "Lukšių pieninė". The place was mentioned for the first time between 1697 and 1706 (in the parish register of Sintautai , it belonged to the territory of the elders of Veliuona in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania ).
