Lukas Scheltz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Luke Scheltz (* 1420, † before December 1476 Heilbronn ) was the personal physician of Count Eberhard the Bearded and first an academic town doctor in Heilbronn.

Life

Scheltz was probably born in Großheppach as the son of Konrad Scheltz, who was attested as Waiblinger Vogt in 1424. In 1436 he was recorded as a student at the University of Heidelberg , and in May 1436 he obtained his doctorate. He was later a personal physician to Count Eberhard im Bart in Urach and was appointed to Heilbronn in 1469 as the first academically trained city physician. He must have died before December 1476, as his widow Elsbeth Gräter bought houses with a farm and farm yard in Heilbronn's Judengasse from Hans Erer on December 23, 1476 . The marriage had at least one son, Erhard Scheltz, who later also became a doctor.
