Lukas Zumsteg (born June 21, 1972 in Sulz ) is a former Swiss cyclist and sports director .

Athletic career

Zumsteg first drew attention to himself in 1995 when he won the silver medal at the Swiss Amateur Championships and won the prologue time trial of the Tour of Eastern Switzerland . He started as an amateur for the clubs VMC Gansingen and RV Sulz. In 1998 Zumsteg received a contract with the Swiss team Ericsson-Villiger , and in 2000 he moved to the newly founded Phonak Hearing Systems . In May 2000 he secured Phonak's first victory in an international cycling race at the Tour of Bern .

In the second Phonak year, the Swiss could no longer build on his previous achievements. His best results in the 2001 season were second places at the Schynberg Tour, the GP de Genève and the Josef Voegeli Memorial pair time trial (with Jean Nuttli ). At the Tour de Suisse 2001 he won the sprint classification. At the end of 2002 Zumsteg resigned from active cycling.
