history

After the Second World War, refugees from Silesia, Pomerania, East and West Prussia came to the Catholic Emsland . So far there was no Protestant church in Werlte, and since the Catholic church in Werlte was completely destroyed in the spring of 1945, the gym at the western exit of the village was set up as an emergency church and made available to the Protestant population.

In 1947 the new Catholic church was rebuilt in Werlte. The Catholic pastor Windus also made this church available for Protestant services. If the church was not available, the Protestant service took place in the Catholic school, which could also be used at any time.

At the preaching points abroad, services were also held either in a Catholic church or in a school.

On April 9, 1951, construction work began on the site in Eichenbrink provided by the municipality of Werlte to build an own chapel in Werlte. The chapel was a gift from The Lutheran World Federation . The construction time was about eight weeks.

On May 6, 1951, the foundation stone was laid by Superintendent Funke from Meppen, the client Pastor Hill from Papenburg, guests of honor and the community.
