history
The Lukoleditalbahn, also called the Lindibaumwollbahn, was built in the south of German East Africa, in the Lindi district. In the Lindi district, cotton cultivation took off considerably and a 60-cm-gauge small railway for locomotive operation was put under construction. The train started in Mingoyo and led to Narunyu (18 km), at the entrance to the Lukoledital .
The construction took place in 1913/14 and led up the Lukoledital from Lindi Creek. When war broke out in August 1914, it is said to have been "in full operation".
The European plantations as well as the government's cotton station in Malliva received better sales opportunities for their cotton products on the coast thanks to the railway. From the port city of Lindi it was then possible to ship the goods brought to the coast by rail.
