Lundia (furniture)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lundia is a shelving system made of solid spruce wood, which works on the modular principle . The Lundia system was invented in 1939 by the Swedish carpenter Harald Lundqvist. His concept was to create a shelf with as few parts as possible and to rely on a simple plug connection between the stand and the shelf. Originally Lundia was made as an industrial shelf. Today's residential shelving developed from this industrial shelf. Lundia was founded in 1948 as a Finnish family company that still exists today and is based in Hyvinkää . As early as 1949, the final production in Varsseveld in the Netherlands started with Dutch furniture manufacturers .

Basic principle

For the simplest shelf you need 2 side parts, also called stands, and any number of shelves. There are also so-called support pins , which are inserted into pre-drilled holes in the stand and on which the shelves are to rest afterwards. The holes are made in a 5 cm grid. Stabilization is essential, such as B. a stabilizing scissors, a wall mount or a back wall, otherwise the shelf loses stability and can collapse after a short time.

The system is similar in function and appearance to the market-leading Ivar products from the furniture company Ikea , but is not compatible with them. Lundia differentiates itself through a much larger variety of system elements, six colored glazes and the side parts in 14 heights are available, there are doors with solid wood panels, clear or frosted glass panels, smooth doors, drawers with full telescopic extension, side panels, protruding and recessed shelves or clothes rails .

distribution

Sales are carried out exclusively on request through our own sales branches, which are organized in the franchise system. Lundia has around 100 shops around the world, around 30 of which are in Germany and 15 in the Netherlands. In the United States, Lundia is manufactured using the system of measurement there; these shelves are not compatible with the metric system; the European system is offered there under the name Skandia.
