Lupper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lupper is a computer worm that was discovered in November 2005. Lupper is known by many names, including Plupii.C, Lupper.worm.b, Lupper-I, and Mare.d.

Lupper can be infected with the RST.b virus.

Attack method

Lupper exploits gaps in the programs WordPress , Tiki , phpGroupware , Drupal in AWStats and Webhint . Newer variants penetrate the computer via the Mambo content management system .

Once on the PC, the worm loads Trojans onto the system, which then becomes part of a bot network and can be used for denial-of-service attacks , for example.

Defense

Common antivirus programs detect the malware. If current versions of the patchy software are used, the existing gaps are closed and the possibility of attack is eliminated. The risk was classified as low by the antivirus software producer McAfee . After the security gaps became known, these were quickly closed in most distributions.
