The Lurefjord is a fjord in the municipalities of Alver and Austrheim in Norway . It is located about 25 kilometers north of Bergen . At its deepest point, it is 440 m deep.
A special hydrography distinguishes this fjord from others: its two entrances to the open sea are unusually narrow. The water of the fjord is 200 meters wide and only 20 meters deep with the Atlantic Ocean . This "isolation" means that hardly any deep water is exchanged and very stable water conditions are found from a depth of around 70 meters.
