Lutheran Convention in the Rhineland

The Lutheran Convention in the Rhineland (short Luther Convention ) is an association of Lutheran Christians in the Uniate Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . The convent was founded in 1936 during the church struggle as a working group of Lutheran pastors in the Rhineland and is today a member of the Lutheran working group .

The basis of the convention is the Bible , which is understood as the binding word of God, and the confessions of the Lutheran Reformation . The Lutheran Convention strives to strengthen the Lutheran creed within the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland. Another focus is the theological work in the context of the Lutheran tradition, in particular making the theology of Martin Luther fruitful for the present day. The Luther Convention takes an active part in current discussions within theology and the church. A liberal theology, adapted to the zeitgeist, is rejected; rather, the Convention emphasizes the binding nature of the Holy Scriptures for the actions and speeches of the Church . So the Convention raised its concerns about the handout Taken literally. This handout from the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland aimed at a “gender-equitable liturgy” in worship. The Luther Convention rejected this handout as heretical .

The convention has around 60 members. One of its most prominent members was the theologian Ernst Volk , former superintendent in Trier . Pastor Winfrid Krause from Malborn has been chairman since 2010 .

The Lutheran Convention in the Rhineland publishes the theological journal Lutherische Nachrichten , which appears 2 to 3 times a year.
