The Lutheran Church is a Protestant church in Herne district tub , which was consecrated 1908th Together with the Cranger Church, it belongs to the Crange district of the Wanne-Eickel parish , in the Herne parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

history

The foundation stone for the Luther Church was laid on July 14, 1907, the church was consecrated almost a year and a half later on December 8, 1908. The church was damaged during World War II , the main roof of the church and the roof of the steeple were almost completely covered, the vaulted ceiling was partially broken in. Windows and outer walls had also suffered damage from shrapnel and bombs. Due to the damage, the church could not be used for services immediately after the war. At the end of 1950 the repair work was completed and an inauguration service could be celebrated. In the course of the renovation work, the fresco painting of the Resurrection of Jesus by Edmund Schuitz , which has long shaped the church, was created behind the altar, which was replaced by a choir window at the beginning of the 1990s.

In 1957 a parish hall was built next to the church.

Church description

The Luther Church, which is a listed building , is characterized in particular by its unusual architecture. Elements of neo-Gothic, north German brick architecture and German-French detail forms from the 12th century can be found in the church.
