Lutz Bachmann (born February 14, 1959 in Bremen ) is a German molecular biologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bremen in 1977, Bachmann studied biology (diploma 1986) at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , the University of Helsinki and the University of Oulu . He then worked as a research assistant in Tübingen, in the Department of Population Genetics. In 1990 he was with the dissertation Comparative studies on the satellite DNA of different species of Drosophila obscura group to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. In 1996 he completed his habilitation , after which he was given a private lectureship in genetics . In 1999/2000 he worked at the Pritzker Lab of Molecular Systematics and Evolution at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.

In 2000 he became Professor of Molecular Systematics at the Natural History Museum (NHM) at the University of Oslo . From 2005 to 2009 he was head of the local department for zoology and the graduate school for systematic parasitology . His main research interests are population genetics , phylogenesis , molecular evolution and molecular systematics .

In the 1990s, together with Michael Scholz , he developed a rapid test to analyze paleogenetic relationships. He was u. a. involved in the DFG project The importance of Neanderthals in the occurrence and distribution of Homo sapiens sapiens in Europe at the Oslo National Center for Biosystematics (NCB) and member of the Fribioøko panel of the Research Council of Norway.

He published several scientific articles and book contributions. In the Web of Science , which lists 73 articles, Bachmann has an h-index of 19 (as of January 20, 2015). Bachmann is a member of the editorial boards of several journals such as the Journal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research . He is also Executive Editor of the journal Zoologica Scripta .

Bachmann is married and has one daughter.
