The Luxembourg central bank ( French Banque centrale du Luxembourg ) is the central bank of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg .
The bank was founded on December 23, 1998 by law of April 22, 1998 and had the Luxembourg monopoly on the issue of banknotes until the introduction of the euro . She took over the tasks of the Institut Monétaire Luxembourgeois (IML) founded in 1983 .
In 1999 the BCL became a member of the European System of Central Banks .
