Luxembourg handball championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Luxembourg handball championship , known as the national division , officially AXA League since December 2018 , is the top division in Luxembourg handball for men and women. It is organized by the Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Handball (FLH) and has been held for men since 1937 and for women since the 1973/74 season. The championship in field handball took place until 1960 , then until 1975 a small field championship was played according to indoor rules.

Current mode

The main round is played as a double round tournament (round-trip round in "everyone against everyone" mode) with usually eight clubs. The six best teams in the title group ( Playoff Titre ) then play in a double round tournament for the Luxembourg championship, with half of the points scored in the main round being taken as a bonus. The teams in the seventh and eighth rank of the main round play in the relegation ( playoff relégation ) together with the four best teams of the second-class Promotioun A also in a double round tournament to stay in the division. Second representations are not permitted in the first division.

Placement criterion in the event of a tie is the direct comparison of the teams.
