Luxlait

Luxlait is the largest milk production cooperative in Luxembourg . It sells milk and milk products under the brand of the same name.

history

Luxlait was founded in 1894 as a private "Central Dairy". The company then renamed as a stock corporation and renamed itself "Zentralmolkerei".

During the Second World War, the Luxembourg dairy industry was restructured by the state, which gave the company a strong boom. The amount of milk delivered daily increased from 2000 liters at the end of the 1930s to 40,000 liters at the end of the Second World War.

In 1946 the company was transformed into an agricultural cooperative and renamed "Dairy Cooperative Luxembourg - Laiterie de Luxembourg".

In the years after the war, the number of Luxembourg dairies decreased drastically. From 150 dairies that existed in 1948, the number fell to 5 dairies 12 years later.

On October 2nd, 1978, the last three Luxembourg dairy cooperatives Celula, Laduno and Luxlait were merged under the name "LUXLAIT association agricole" (socièté coopérative). The company's headquarters were in the Merl district of Luxembourg .

Since 2009, the Luxlait based on the Roost in bite where it operates, in addition to a much larger factory, since 2010, the milk-adventure world vitarium . Because of this, and because Luxlait has been one of the main sponsors of the Tour of Luxembourg for years , the third stage in 2011 ends on the company premises.

In 2005, the dairy processed 118,479,256 kg of milk that was supplied by 545 producers.

2005: 248 employees. Turnover EUR 61.7 million.

2011: 300 employees. Sales EUR 75 million. (thereof 39% home market)

The company's board member is Claude Steinmetz .
