Maria Luz Gabás Ariño (* 1968 in Monzón , Spain ) is a Spanish English scholar and writer .

Life

After finishing school, Luz Gabás lived for a year in San Luis Obispo , California , before studying English literature at the University of Zaragoza . Upon graduation, she became a lecturer at the same university.

Gabás made her debut as a writer in 2012 with Palmeras en la nieve . She wrote the story of two brothers who lived in the Spanish colony of Equatorial Guinea in 1953 in memory of their father, who had died before. Work on the novel lasted about five years and eventually became a huge hit with both critics and audiences. By September 2013, over half a million copies had sold and the novel was translated into several languages. The director Fernando González Molina filmed the book with Mario Casas , Adriana Ugarte and Fernando Cayo in the leading roles.
