The Lucerne Christkindlimarkt in the train station is an annual Christmas market in Lucerne train station .

facts and figures

The Lucerne Christkindlimarkt was first held in 2003 and consisted of two market houses. It has now grown to around 50 market houses. Due to its protected location, it is independent of the weather. The Lucerne Christkindlimarkt is a member of the “Christmas in Lucerne” association, which is committed to the concerns and communication of Lucerne's pre-Christmas events.

history

In 2003, the SBB wanted a high quality event for the station concourse in the run-up to Christmas. They commissioned the organizing committee of the Zurich Christkindlimarkt in the main station to hold a corresponding Christmas market in the Lucerne station hall.

The first Lucerne Christkindlimarkt in 2003 consisted of just two market houses. These were used to signal to passers-by that a Christmas market will take place here as an event lasting several weeks from next year. In 2004 the market already consisted of around 20 market houses. Since the station hall in Lucerne is divided by various entrances and exits for pedestrians, the optimal distribution of the market house is more difficult than with its counterpart in the open main hall of Zurich main station .

particularities

In addition to the Engelsstimmen stage, the annual highlight is the Emmentaler Stöckli with regional products as well as art and handicraft demonstrations by Emmental cultural workers. There are also other activities such as visiting lamas , face painting , Santa Claus with treichlers, etc.

Angel voices

The Engelsstimmen stage is now an integral part of the Lucerne Christkindlimarkt. Engelsstimmen is a nonprofit project that enables school classes, choirs and other musicians to perform on a professional stage. The Engelsstimmen stage has been a guest at the Lucerne Christkindlimarkt since 2005. Angel voices are carried by sponsors.

Engelsstimmen is also involved in Vienna , with the corresponding stage being positioned in the Christmas village of Belvedere Palace . Special events with angel voices have already taken place in Lucerne, such as a concert by the Swiss finalists for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011.
