Lydie Schmit

Lydie Schmit (born January 31, 1939 in Esch-sur-Alzette , † April 7, 1988 ) was a Luxembourg politician of the LSAP .

Lydie Schmit studied history and taught from 1963 as a Lyceum professor, first at a private school and from 1968 at the Lycée Hubert Clément. She joined the LSAP in 1970 and was elected Vice President in 1973. From 1974 to 1979 she was president of the party. In 1979 she was elected to the Chamber , but she gave up this position on August 30, 1980. On November 10, 1980, she was elected President of the Socialist Women's International and Vice-President of the Socialist International , which she remained until 1984. In 1984 she ran for elections to the European Parliament and was a member of the European Parliament until her death in 1988 .
