A total of only six two-men competed in Los Angeles, Harriet van Ettekoven and Lynda Cornet rowed three and a half seconds behind the third-placed boat from the Federal Republic of Germany across the finish line and were thus Olympic gold medalists. Even in the aft , only six boats competed. In the eighth of the Netherlands sat the crews from the two, the double and the four with helmswoman . The Dutch women won the bronze medal behind the boats from the United States and Romania, 0.7 seconds ahead of the Canadians.
