The MÁV Il was a fast train - Train Locomotive of the Hungarian State Railways MÁV.

In 1900, the MÁV had to think about purchasing new express train locomotives again, as the aging series MÁV Ia and MÁV Ie could no longer cope with the increasing train weights. A wet steam composite locomotive (MÁV Il) as well as a wet steam twin variant ( MÁV Im ) were therefore ordered in Budapest .

Compared to the predecessor types (Ia, Ie, ...), the boiler of the composite variant was larger and therefore more powerful. It had an inner frame and an outer engine. At the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 she won the gold medal of the Grand Prix.

Although it performed better in the comparisons with the Im 801, no reorders were made. In 1906, however, an n4v variant ( MÁV In ) went into series production.

In the second MÁV scheme, it was classified in category II with the number 701. In the third scheme valid from 1911 it was then designated as 201,001.

In 1910 it was converted into a superheated steam locomotive (like the twin engine Im 801), which increased its performance by around 40%.
