Moravian Theater Olomouc
The Moravian Theater Olomouc is a music theater and drama institution in the Moravian city of Olomouc , Czech Republic .
history
The beginnings of the institution go back to the 16th century.
The first representative building for the theater was built by the Viennese architect Joseph Kornhäusel around 1830, but in the course of its history there have been several renovations and new buildings, especially in 1920 and 1976.
The theater was used as an opera house from around 1830, when it was primarily played in German. In the 1882/1883 season Gustav Mahler worked here as Kapellmeister, in 1903 Gustav Brecher was employed at the house. Maria Jeritza made her debut as Elsa in Richard Wagner's Lohengrin at this theater.
Since 1920 (opening with Bedřich Smetanas Libusa ) they have been playing in the Czech language.
