Joseph Georg Kornhäusel (also Kornhäusl , born November 13, 1782 in Vienna ; † October 31, 1860 there ) was an Austrian architect and son of the master builder Johann Georg Kornhäusel . He is considered an outstanding architect of the first half of the 19th century and one of the most important Austrian exponents of classicism , which he combines with local traditions.

biography

Both the side of the inner city of Vienna facing the Danube Canal and the central parts of Baden near Vienna are significantly influenced by it. From 1823 to 1826 he planned and built the Vienna main synagogue, the so-called city ​​temple .

His grave of honor is located in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 14 A, number 45 A). In 1920 the Kornhäuselgasse in Vienna- Brigittenau (20th district) was named after him.
