Men (chorus)
Men was a Christian male choir made up of befriended pop musicians from the scene.
history
The formation was founded in the early 1990s under the direction of Armin Müller, who acted as arranger, choir director, pianist and musical director. The choir released their debut album under the title Men with the comment "ten selected male voices in a musical adventure". In addition to arrangements of well-known Christian songs such as "Kum Ba Yah my Lord", they also wrote their own songs, where Burkhard Müller was largely responsible for the lyrics and Armin Müller for the background music. This was particularly evident in the title Let Me Hear, a calm, thoughtful ballad.
The album was published by ERF Verlag and among the contributors were well-known voices of Christian pop music such as Eberhard Rink and Helmut Jost . The musical style of the debut album was characterized by a reduced use of instruments and the focus on the voices. Mainly used were:
piano and Fender Rhodes (played by Armin Müller), bass (played by Helmut Jost), drums and the flute (played by Arnd Schuler, a long-time friend and musician who opposed his career as a flutist with the Berliner Philharmonic and decided to study surgery).
The following album Typisch Männer was also released in 1993 by ERF-Verlag. The program again consisted of German and English titles of different styles and was interpreted in a pop-gospel sound. As a third album, the choir released a Christmas concept under the title Christmas Men . Guests here included Manfred Siebald , Danny Plett and, with Ruthild Wilson, even a female voice. The last album Down By The Riverside was released in 1997 by Geraphon .
