The Möller-Wedel GmbH & Co. KG is a German manufacturer of optical devices for microsurgery. The company belongs to the Swiss Haag-Streit Holding .

history

The company was founded in 1864 by Johann Diedrich Möller and operated under the name JD Möller Optische Werke GmbH. Initially, various optical products such as microscopes, binoculars, optical measuring devices and anamorphic optics for film projectors were manufactured. Möller-Wedel GmbH has been concentrating on the development and production of optical measurement technology and devices for microsurgery since the 1960s. In 1990, the company was incorporated into the Haag-Streit Group with headquarters in Köniz, Switzerland. Since 1999, the optical measuring device division has been an independent subsidiary of Möller-Wedel Optical GmbH, and Möller-Wedel GmbH focuses on the manufacture of medical products.

Products and Technologies

CamBinox - photo field glasses from the 1950s

The focus is on surgical microscopes for ophthalmology as well as neurosurgery, ENT, dental and spinal surgery. In this product group, Möller-Wedel GmbH brought several new products onto the market, including surgical microscopes attached to the ceiling and LED lighting for operating systems.

Fluorescence-supported surgical procedures are made possible by a microscope system. After the administration of special fluorescent substances, the edges of certain aggressive brain tumors can be more visible and therefore easier to operate (fluorescence-assisted tumor resection) or the occlusion or leakage of blood vessels can be visualized and thus treated (fluorescence angiography) with special color-selected or infrared lighting.

Flexible imaging systems are used to track the course of the operation by OR staff via a monitor, video documentation and connection to the hospital network via standardized interfaces.

In 2009 Möller-Wedel GmbH received the IF Design Award 2010.
