geography

Sprockhof is located about 25 km north of Hanover directly on the road  190 Langenhagen - Walsrode .

history

The small town of Sprockhof has developed from a single farm, the Sprockhoff. In 1380 the name Hans von dem Sprockhoue is mentioned in a document book of the State Archives Hanover. The entry includes levies or taxes on rye and buckwheat. The name Sprockhof comes from the name "Sprock", which means brushwood and was once an important material for house, yard and field. The swan neck of the Berkhofer coat of arms is taken from the family coat of arms of the Sprockhoffs (Tönnieshof). In the Middle Ages, the swan symbolized the constant return of spring. The places Berkhof, Plumhof and Sprockhof are shown united in the coat of arms of Berkhof. In 1589, six farms in Sprockhof were registered in the treasury of the Grand Bailiwick of Celle .

Since 1929 Sprockhof has belonged to the Berkhof community . As part of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on March 1, 1974, this was incorporated into the municipality of Wedemark .
