history

The name Negenborn was first mentioned in a document in 1271 in connection with the name of the knight "Werner von Negenborn". Presumably the place name derives from the abundant sources in the place, since nine in Low German means "negen" and sources are also called "Born". The treasury register of Celle mentions the place in 1438 as "Negenborne".

Incorporations

In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Negenborn was incorporated into the municipality of Wedemark.

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of Negenborn comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region. The approval of the coat of arms was granted by the district president in Lüneburg on August 23, 1963.

Coat of arms of Negenborn
Blazon : "Under a green shield head , covered with a silver wolf tang , in silver a black mill wheel ring , inside three blue cross streams , from each of which three blue springs break out."
Foundation of the coat of arms: The name Negenborn means “nine springs” (Negen = nine, Born = source) and is due to the fact that the place is located in an area rich in water and springs. The blue cross brooks and the nine arrows pointing upwards indicate this. The black mill wheel is reminiscent of a watermill that used to exist in Negenborn. The Wolfsangel indicates that the municipality belongs to the Burgdorf district , which also has the Wolfsangel in its coat of arms.

Culture and sights

Buildings

  • Partly very old half-timbered houses and farms characterize the townscape.
  • The Negenborn watermill is certainly older, but it is certain that it was operated with the associated farm from 1644 and that the current building was erected in 1779. The grinding operation took place with water power until 1936, then from 1947 to 1966 with electric drive. Then the mill was stopped and the mill building has been used for residential purposes ever since.
  • The half-timbered chapel was built in 1693 on the foundations of the previous chapel after it had become dilapidated as a result of the Thirty Years War.
  • In 2019 the sculptor Jürgen Friede erected an art object on the site in front of the chapel as part of the "continuation of the street of children's rights" , which he designed according to drafts and in cooperation with the children and young people of the Negenborn youth fire brigade.
