history

prehistory

Already filled in excavation site in a building area where prehistoric burials were found, 2020

In today's area of Wennebostel, archaeological finds suggest a prehistoric settlement around 2500 years ago. During archaeological investigations in an area intended for development, burial remains were found in 2020, which presumably date from the Bronze or Iron Ages. These included two urns , two ceramic bowls as grave goods and two fireplaces. A few years earlier there were prehistoric settlement findings about 300 meters from the site . According to the findings of the Lower Saxony State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, there are numerous references to burial sites from the Bronze and Iron Ages in the area around Wennebostel. According to the Lower Saxony state archaeologist Henning Haßmann , Wedemark was partly densely populated in the period from 1000 BC to 1000 AD.

Middle Ages until today

A farm from the 10th century is considered to be the origin of the village of Wennebostel. Even today the place has a distinctly rural character.

In 1993 Wennebostel emerged as the winner in the competition " Our village should be more beautiful " at the district level.

Incorporations

In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Wennebostel was incorporated into the municipality of Wedemark.

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of Wennebostel comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region. The approval of the coat of arms was given by the district president in Lüneburg on November 29, 1966.

Wennebostel coat of arms
Blazon : "In green on silver ground , covered with a lying, black wolf tang, a silver horse saddled and fencedin gold jumping right , asilver forester blowinga golden hunting horn , on the left accompanied by a golden royal crown ."
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms shows a riding forester who had his official seat here until shortly before the turn of the century and of whom the forester's farm still reminds us today. Also in the recession of the municipality of Wennebostel from 1851, the “stately riding forester's station No. 29” is listed among those interested in partitioning. The crown is intended to indicate that the riding forester was in the service of the King of Hanover , most recently in Prussian service . The wolf angel was included in the coat of arms to symbolize the community's affiliation to the Burgdorf district , which itself has the wolf angel in its coat of arms.
