Henning Haßmann (born April 12, 1963 in Osnabrück ) is a German prehistorian and state archaeologist for Lower Saxony . He heads the archeology department of the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument Preservation in Hanover .

Life

After graduating from the Hannah-Arendt-Gymnasium in Lengerich in 1982, Henning Haßmann completed his military service in the German Navy . In 1983 he took up the study of pre- and early history , geology , classical archeology and art history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster on. In 1985 he moved to the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , where he graduated in 1994 with a dissertation on “The stone artifacts of the fortified Neolithic settlement of BüdelsdorfPhD (see: Erdwerk von Büdelsdorf ) .

From 1994 to 2001 he worked at the State Office for Archeology Saxony with the State Museum for Prehistory in Dresden . Until 1997 he held the position of area officer (district archaeologist). The main focus of his work was prehistory and early history as well as city , castle and mining archeology . At the end of 1997, Henning Haßmann became department head of the central specialist services of his authority. He was responsible for the inventory of monuments , the editing of publications and the archaeological restoration. He also organized events such as exhibitions, conferences and training courses for the State Office.

From 1999 to 2003 he was deputy chairman of the German Society for Prehistory and Early History .

In October 2001 Henning Haßmann started the position of state archaeologist for Lower Saxony, which had been vacant for almost five years in Hanover. In this function, he has since been head of the archeology department at the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument Preservation and was deputy head of the authorities for many years.

Haßmann has been part of the Harzhorn research project on the Harzhorn event since 2008 . The research team was formed after the first findings to coordinate the further procedure.

His main research areas include moor archeology , cultural landscape research, early peasant cultures, the Bronze Age , Romans and Germanic peoples as well as the research history of the first half of the 20th century.

In addition to his professional activity, he has particularly devoted himself to the subject of archeology and research into early history during the National Socialist era . Henning Haßmann is married and lives in Altwarmbüchen .
