Quotes

Stefan Winghart in the Erfurt conversation “Falling, destroyed, burned. Is there only smoke and mirrors left of the cultural heritage ? ”In the MDR on the occasion of the fire of the Weimar Duchess Anna Amalia Library , special broadcast on September 6, 2004:

“In order to deal responsibly with the historical heritage entrusted to us, we must embrace it. Preservation, however, must not be equated with the preservation of a state. Preservation of monuments as an applied historical science is a dynamic and therefore also selective process, it shapes the transition from the past to the future. "

On February 22, 2012, Stefan Winghart, President of the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument Preservation, commented on the discovery of the gold hoard by Gessel :

“Archaeological sensations do not fall from the sky, they are rather the result of meticulous and patient scientific work. Only comprehensive investigations [...] lead to new findings. "
