Fritz Moosleitner

Fritz Moosleitner (actually Friedrich Moosleitner , born July 19, 1935 in Hallein ) is an Austrian prehistoric scientist and was a regional archaeologist for Salzburg from 1985 to 2001 .

Life

Moosleitner attended elementary and secondary school in Hallein between 1941 and 1950 and then switched to secondary school in Hallein. From 1950 to 1955 he came to the trade school in Salzburg , where he trained as a technician. From 1955 to 1970 he was employed as a structural engineer. In 1961 he married Roswitha Wieneroither; the couple had a son in 1967.

In 1963 Moosleitner began studying prehistory and early history in Salzburg; He completed his dissertation ("Die Gravefunde des Dürrnberg") in 1975, his doctorate in 1976. From April 1, 1970 to December 31, 2000 he was curator of the archaeological department of the Salzburg Museum Carolino-Augusteum . From 1985 to December 31, 2001 he was the second regional archaeologist of Salzburg. In this function he carried out research on art history for Salzburg's history and beyond, and initiated important archaeological excavations. From 1994 to 1996 he (also) headed the Salzburg Museum Carolino-Augusteum on an interim basis. In addition, he was known as a specialist in native orchid species, as a specialist in mining, as a diver with the ability to observe underwater flora, fauna and rudera and also as a valued jazz musician, book author, book designer and book lover.

Already retired, Moosleitner was involved in the planning and organization of the archaeological part of the EU project " Ambisonta - the lords of the mountains" in 2007 . In this project, phenomena of historical ethnogenesis are examined in comparison between the Upper Pinzgau and Northwest Wales. The focus is on the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age, in which the Upper Pinzgau had supra-regional contacts due to the copper deposits in the east of the Alps.
