Saddle (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The saddle riding tool is a common figure in heraldry .

Few coats of arms show this heraldic figure . The representation is primarily based on the natural model of a riding saddle for horses, but can also be modeled on that for other animals (for example camels , elephants ) and is shown almost without exception with the stirrups in the coat of arms . The coloring is based on heraldic possibilities. The saddle with different tinging than the stirrups is not unusual. Often one also sets the saddlecloth from color.

There are so-called talking coats of arms with this coat of arms figure. Examples are the German municipality of Satteldorf with a black saddle in a golden field and the Swiss village of Sattel .

The saddle is also shown lying on a horse and must then be mentioned (reported) with this detail in the description of the coat of arms. Bridles or saddlebags must also be mentioned.
