Wiechendorf is a village in the municipality of Wedemark , which belongs to Scherenbostel in the Hanover region.

geography

Wiechendorf is two kilometers west of Scherenbostel, but a hamlet over two kilometers to the west also belongs to Wiechendorf. This is only one and a half kilometers east of the Lönswinkel settlement belonging to Resse .

history

Wiechendorf was mentioned in the 14th century as Wichmanstorpe , 1438 as Wichmandorppe , 1521 as Wychmedorp and 1625 as Wichendorff . It can therefore be assumed that the meaning can be given via the Old High German word wīgman ( fighter ) with settlement of fighters . It is also possible that the first resident was simply called Wichmann. In 1438 the place had two farmers, Alwerd and Grawerd. In 1458 the settlement was destroyed in the Lüneburg Prelate War. In 1519 Wiechendorf was burned down by the Hildesheim collegiate feud . Wiechendorf consists of eight farms. Up to the beginning of the 19th century Wiechendorf was a separate community, which was equipped with a community hall in 1883 and had its own school until 1908. Wiechendorf was later incorporated into Scherenbostel, which in turn was incorporated into Wedemark in 1974.

Today there are regular poultry shows in Wiechendorf.
