Fritz Sennheiser (born May 9, 1912 in Berlin ; † May 17, 2010 in Wedemark ) was a German electrical engineer and the founder of the family business Sennheiser electronic .

Life

Fritz Sennheiser graduated from high school in Berlin in 1932 . Due to the poor employment prospects, he decided not to pursue his primary career aspiration to become a horticultural architect. Instead, he decided to study electrical engineering with a focus on communications engineering at the Technical University in Berlin, which he started in the same year. In 1936 he completed his studies with his diploma thesis at the Heinrich Hertz Institute for Vibration Research there and then became a scientific assistant there.

It was during this time that he became engaged to his future wife Hertha (1920–2009).

In 1938 Fritz Sennheiser moved to the TH Hannover together with Oskar Vierling , in order to be involved in the establishment of the Institute for High Frequency Technology and Electroacoustics under his leadership. In 1940 he did his doctorate there under Oskar Vierling and took over his lectures (high frequency technology I / II / III, electron tubes I / II, electroacoustics I / II; later only electroacoustics I / II) when Vierling began to set up another institute in Bamberg . The main focus of the institute's work was encryption technology - a topic that was not allowed to be dealt with any further after the end of the war and the threat of death by the Allies.

The institute was relocated to Wennebostel north of Hanover in 1943 after a bomb hit . In the turmoil shortly after the end of the war, Fritz Sennheiser took the initiative and on June 1, 1945 founded the trade company Labor W for Wennebostel, which is registered in the trade register . From the Labor W of decades has been over Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG .

On May 9th, 1982 Fritz Sennheiser handed over the management to his son Jörg Sennheiser (* 1944). He himself became a limited partner .

From 1943 to 1983 Sennheiser taught at the University of Hanover . From 1962 to 1976 he was chairman of the professional association for audio and video technology in the Central Association of the Electrotechnical Industry eV (ZVEI), from 1964 to 1970 a member of the ZVEI board of directors and a member of the executive committee until 1980.
