Möllner speech in exile

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mölln Speech in Exile is a commemorative event that critically examines the official commemoration of the city of Mölln and commemorates the arson attack of November 23, 1992 in Mölln . They have been taking place in different cities since 2013.

The 10- and 14-year-old girls Yeliz Arslan and Ayşe Yılmaz and their 51-year-old grandmother Bahide Arslan died in the Mölln murder. Ibrahim Arslan, then seven years old, survived because his grandmother Bahide Arslan wrapped him in damp cloths in the burning house in order to save his life. Ibrahim Arslan criticized the city of Mölln for not giving the victims' voices a sufficient hearing at the memorial. His aim is to focus on the perspective of the victims of right-wing extremist and racist attacks when remembering and commemorating.

Emergence

Every year on the anniversary of the attack, the city of Mölln organizes an official commemoration in which Ibrahim Arslan did not see himself involved as a victim. He felt more like an extra for the event. Together with his father Faruk Arslan and the Freundeskreis in memory of the xenophobic arson attacks in Mölln in 1992, he initiated the Mölln speech in exile in 2013, which focuses on the perspective of those affected and discusses current developments in racism and neo-Nazism .
