The Hinte mill (also called Hinte windmill or Hinteraner mill) is the only windmill in the Hinte municipality in the Aurich district ( East Friesland ). The building, erected in 1869, was restored from 1992 to 1997 and has been equipped with functioning mill technology since then.

A mill at its current location at Hinter Tief was first mentioned in 1658. The current building was built in 1869 and was operated as a grain mill. It is a three-story Dutch gallery with a codend. The brick building , an octagon, has a roofing of thatch . The wing system consisted of four sail gate wings until 1902. After that, until 1958 the windmill had two sail gate and two louvre blades. In 1958, one year after the mill decommissioning law was passed against the ruinous competition among mills, the Hinteraner windmill was also decommissioned and demolished except for the masonry. The wind drive was shut down in 1958, the motor drive that was used as a secondary drive in 1987.

The mill was renovated from 1992 to 1997 and restored with the original sail gate wings. The wing diameter (called flight) is 25.65 meters. The building (including the attached machine house) accommodates the tourist office of the community of Hinte (ground floor) as well as a wedding room, a picture gallery and a dining room (upper floor). The mill technology is still present and functional. The mill can be viewed from the inside on weekends (3 to 6 p.m.), and guided tours are available on request.
