The Moisburg Mill Museum has been located in the former official watermill in Moisburg in the Harburg district since 1985 and shows permanent and special exhibitions on the regional mill history. The official watermill is one of the last fully functional mills in the region and regularly grinds grain for bakeries in the area. The Moisburg Mill Museum is a branch of the open-air museum on Kiekeberg .

history

The watermill was documented as early as 1379. The core of the current building was built around 1723. The interior of the mill shows the historical state of the 1930s. At that time the miller lived with his family in the old mill building. One of the three water wheels from that time is still in use today. Moisburg was the administrative center of the office very early on . The Moisburger Mühle became an official mill and thus a compulsory mill . Farmers of the office had to have their grain ground in this mill. In 1982 the Harburg district acquired the Moisburger Mühle and began renovating it. The official mill became a mill museum and a branch of the open-air museum on the Kiekeberg .

The museum

Mills are the first technical structures in the country. The mill museum provides information about grain grinding, grain and the work of the mill builder. On the ground floor of the mill, the visitor learns more about the living and working conditions of the miller family around 1930: millers lived and worked under one roof. Descriptions of the last miller's family and the existing inventory made it possible to reconstruct the interior rooms. The equipment on display includes a grain cleaning machine from 1910 and a seed dressing machine. From the stairs the visitor looks into the grinder. The mill builder's tools are on display behind the grinding technology. An exhibition on the upper floor shows the different types of mills. The museum also has a café in the Mahlgaststube and a small museum shop.

Events

From mid-April to mid-October, the mill wheel turns on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, meal days are held every Sunday during these months. The miller shows the old technology and explains the way from grain to flour. From the rye flour that is ground during these grinding demonstrations, a rye bread made from natural sourdough is baked according to an old recipe in a local bakery. Once a year the large arts and crafts market takes place in the Moisburg Mill Museum and times long past come to life again at the Mill Festival.

The museum takes part in the German Milling Day as well as the Open Monument Day and the Day of Industrial Culture on the Water. There are also various cultural events such as Low German concerts, readings, lectures, etc. a. instead of. In addition to adult tours, the visitor service also offers a museum educational program on the subjects of “Grain and Nutrition” and “Paper Scooping” for children and young people. The museum can be used for individual celebrations and children's birthdays.
